Nearly done painting my ACw armies from H&R. All along I have noticed that these new figs with the crisp, lovely sculpts feel smaller than my vintage up to around 2016 Napoleonic figs. And I have been painting them much faster, for me, than in the past. So I placed a Union stand next to some Austrian infantry and they are definitely smaller, now they really are 5mm it seems.
The question really is, what will happen the next time I go to H&R for some French infantry. Are they gonna look a lot smaller than the thousands I already have? H&R already don't match up with Baccus and Adler. Now they may not match up with each other! Anyone else encounter this, or is it just some new ACW molds causing this? Bruce

I did think about contacting Andy at H&R but they have just finished a major expansion and now he is dealing with a family illness. So again, any thoughts on the possible size differential between older H&R and the new sculpts? Bruce

I must admit I hadnt brought any H&R for decades until recently. Purchased at the Joy of Six show a couple of weeks back. These were their new WW2 figures. I think they fit better with GHQ armour then Adler. John.

Not surprised, others have said the same, John. They get high praise for their WW2 and Moderns, compatible, new models coming out all the time, good quality. This seems to be their focus as they apparently retool the whole operation.
They still have tons of earlier figs as always, the selection remains large, comprehensive. But I can't imagine them redoing the molds for all periods - a vast project indeed. As I said, if I need more French, I want them to match what I have. There is a certain old fashioned quality to H&R that I find almost comforting. They are like Airfix, a bygone era. But they are really moving ahead at this point and I am glad to see both them and so many other producers of figures, mats, scenics, rules etc. apparently doing well. The hobby is a long way from fading away. Now if we could just get some more people posting here..... Bruce

The answer is yes. My new H&R ACW are more like 4mm, looking noticeably smaller next to my H&R Naps, which I mostly bought between 2008 and 2016. So, I am off to their website to send Andy a note asking if the new H&R Nap figs are compatible with the old ones re:size. I really like the new sculpts, very good quality. And I still feel that H&R look better than any other maker en masse. But...I would not be happy if there was any significant change in size. While my H&R armies are not huge they are way too big for me to feel like starting over. To be continued...Bruce
