I am contemplating selling off my 15mm Naps to fund more 6mm figures and have them painted for me as I have really lost my painting mojo but deperately need more 6mm miniatures. My figures are all AB French and I invested a lot of time to paint them as well as I could. I mainly play against a good friend who prefers General de Brigade rules and has literally thousands of 15mm miniatures. So there are a number of things to consider. Will I regret selling miniatures I have spent a lot of time painting? As my main gaming buddy plays 15mm would it be rude selling off my figures (he also painted two battalions of infantry for me)? Will I actually raise enough money to make it worth while? I see a lot of miniatures on E Bay that seem to have had no bids made. Ideally, does anyone know some one who wants to buy a whole lot of 15mm French?

I cannot speak to the market value, and I am not using this scale. But I would want to keep them because of the time you have spent working on them, gaming with them, and especially the connection to your friend. And what if you want to come back to them someday?
It sounds silly to some no doubt, but I am very attached to my guys, they remind me of different stages in my life and probably saved me thousands in therapy sessions as I got lost in the details of painting something like a hussar's uniform. I have all of my various troops going back to my childhood. Probably do need the therapy! Bruce

I never had the heart to sell my 25mm Minifigs I painted 40 years ago. They are still in a cupboard hidden away and never used. As Bruce says, they are memories of old friends passed on. Tim

One rule if you have someone to play with using the scale/game them never sell figures.

I have never sold off my figures as there are always new rule sets coming out, I stopped using 25mm ancients as 15mm came in, now 25mm has made a come back (my 25mm were stolen). Never replaced them, now regret it. Just remember, it will cost more to replace, than it will be to sell them. Also what goes around comes around. Hope this helps. Colin

Cheers. Yes, I would probably regret it a few years down the track. I sold a lot of 15mm Ancients off about 25 years ago, then last year thought about returning to Ancients. I only found a few miniatures and was a bit perplexed for a while until I remembered selling them. Luckily these were unpainted lead, so no real investment made, but I was still a bit miffed. The problem is my 6mm gaming has stalled and needs more little men. Having just built/moved into a new house and having other expenses (daughter has an overseas school trip and needs braces) I have no extra money unless I give up wine and espressos!!!

What would Napoleon do? Short of troops, facing challenges, can't give up wine. No more espresso! Bruce

This is a really hard one. When I moved to Australia I sold off huge quantities of things including all the miniatures from my youth and my not inconsiderable collection of vintage Britains. I loved them all but, at the same time, they had sat in boxes and travelled round the country with me for many years virtually never seeing the light of day. So I hardened my heart to make space in my life. My advice would be to think of it not so much in monetary terms but as setting up a different future. For me making that break got me into gaming and collecting again in 6mm so it was definitely worth it for me but it is a personal thing - a bit like giving up smoking. Really hard until you really want to do it and then you just know.
