My grandfather had in a drawer these four metal balls. My father had tried to cut off a ball. I can say that they are of iron. My grandfather fought in WWI because too young (born in 1902). I seem to be the balls of a Canister Shot. I ask Tim or those in the know: can be really balls of a Canister Shot? They measure about 1 inch (2,4 cm) in diameter. In the area where I live there were clashes at the time of the siege of Turin (1706), Napoleon's passage and fighting in WWII. But it seems that in 1706 were not yet used (I think) and WWII were not used more. Thanks to those who can answer me. Hello. Marco From Wikipedia a Canister Shot used during ACW

They could well be Marco, they are about the right size for a 6 pounder. A good find! Do you have a local museum that could confirm it?
