Last night I painted my first 6mm figures in years. Just a test strip of Adler Austrian infantry. In the past I've been able to shade and highlight and generally go to town on them. This time im struggling to see any detail! I guess my eyesight aint what it used to be :-)

I found that I took some time to regain my modest skills when I returned to the field. Apparently it is not just like riding a bike for everyone. But I did get better, learned a lot from this forum where people post great pics of their work, and went online for a refresher on techniques. Painting tools and supplies, and everything else, are much more accessible and varied now that the internet has created and connected a much larger community of us.
I also found that lighting and posture are very important as you get older! Bruce

And dont forget you need decent light, Daylight bulbs ( old fashioned tungsten ones my preference the new flourescent jobs not as good ) and if you wear reading glasses you need to think about getting new ones with a much shorter focal range, standard reading lenses focus to far away. A quick cheap option is to grab a pair of standard +2.5/3 reading glasses from the pound shop. Other than that its a matter of taking it easy and you'll find you adjust to seeing the small fellas fine. L

Thanks chaps. I've finished the first base of 12 figures although I'm not happy with them. Currently have several other strips on the painting table, trying to find a style I'm happy with. Once I've got 3 or 4 bases done I'll post some comparison photos.
