The Grand Battery forms up: And commences firing Old Boney arrives. That hat looks just too big. I preferred the squashed bicorn Rod Steiger wore and the old grey great coat. This chap also looks a bit more fit and thinner than Napoleon was at that time. The allied forces begin to deploy. Camp followers are seated behind them and then the northern part of the stadium. There were some rather unusual uniforms present. These< I believe, are Swiss. Swiss units did fight at Ligny. There were also some lost Italans and Austrians (these will appear in a later post). Cuirassiers with Old Guard in the background Old Guard The battlefield quickly became blanketed in smoke. Our initial seating gave a good view over most of the field, but meant we were far from the action. Smoke and the failing light (the reenactments started at seven each evening) made photography difficult. The event made me appreciate how even a few low hills and smoke impair vision on the battlefield. Command and control must have been extremely difficult. A friend was there as a journalist and has posted photographs from in the thick of the action on his "Napoleon Guide" www.napoleonguide.com/
