I had posted these elsewhere, but thought they might be of more interest here. In June I went on a tour with the Cultural Experience for the 200th anniversary of Waterloo. Our tour guide was Major (retired) Gordon Corrigan who has written a number of popular histories including ones about Waterloo and Wellington. Gordon clearly had an extensive knowledge of the battle and period and proved to be an entertaining and enthusiastic guide. The tour was an eight day extravaganza taking in all four battles of the 1815 campaign, the Prussian retreat to Wavre and later advance to Waterloo, the French invasion and later retreat and took in the two reenactments. I will try to post some photos over the next few weeks, when I have time. First up are ones from Ligny. View towards Fleurus from the Prussian positions above Ligny. The water tower stands near the remains of the windmill that Napoleon used to view the battle. The chateau held by elements of 1/19 regiment under Captain Pritzelwitz Chateau in the background (left) and an original wall on the right. French infantry advanced along this road... to meet a gun firing canister from this building This farm, in the village, was stoutly defended for much of the battle Strangely, I believe the church was not defended View from the Prussian positions above Ligny And the view in the other direction. Somewhere just to the left of the picture is where Blücher was found injured under his horse.
