Let me start by saying I'm not the world best painter. I guess the nicest thing you can say about my painting is that it is "wargames" standard. I have tried to follow Tim's "6mm Buidings" thread under tutorials but somehow mine just never look s good as his do!
I have a question - what do you guess think about the idea of the mnufacturer putting courtyards, bushes, etc. round their 6mm buildings?
I must say I really hate it. It makes painting the buildings so much harder. Lack of dexterity makes painting doors and windows behind the bushes almost impossible for me!
Leven Miniatures, Timecast and even Irregular do their houses (and churches) standing alone which make it so much easier. I can add groundwork an greenery after they are painted. They also sell walls seperately which means I can have them the exact size/shape I want.
TBM do stand-alone houses for their Spanish range which I really loved. I added my own bases, gardens, olivegroves after they were painted. So I bought one each of their Waerloo houses, but these were very different - not just houses but gardens and courtyards in place. I am painting them now and its much harder and much more work than the Spanish ones and the end result seems actually worse.
Even Baccus unfortuneately have some terrain surrounding their houses.
So my plee to building manufacters is just do the buildings - dont put lots of "stuff" on the base together with them.

I agree Keith. Whenever I get a building with moulded on greenery I paint it a base dark green then dilute PVA then a good coat of flock to give it a bit of texture then matt varnish over the top to stick it in place.

Point well taken Keith - but then again I don't do it anyway, and I don't add 'bases' either for the same reasons.

I don't do it anyway, and I don't add 'bases' either for the same reasons. Which is why I bought your Plancenoit church together with your seperate Garden Walls Set. I could make the exact size churchyard I wanted and can add some flock to the walls where I thought most appropriate. Came out very nice, even if I do say so myself
