At last I can start my army, as my French Army Pack from Baccus has arrived. However, now I need some help with choosing paint. From painting some 28mm French Infantry, I know which Blue and Red I will be using, but I have no idea what Green to use for my Dragoons and Chasseurs. Does anyone have any recommendations ?

Now you have opened a can of worms there Hal The theory goes that you generally need a lighter hue of paint for 6mm but there are sooo many other factors to take into consideration. I use vallejo flat green which may be a bit dark but from 3 feet away you will never know the difference. If you put the figures under very bright lighting it will look lighter. If you use flash to take a picture it will look even lighter! Everyones computer screen renders colours a bit bit differently so there is another complication. Every print you see will be slightly different even depending on the batch of dye used and how old the uniform is will have an effect. So in general I would not worry about it too much. Even Napoleon could not tell the difference between Prussian and French uniforms through a telescope at Waterloo! Tim

I used ork hide green which is very dark then a black wash then reapply ork hide leaving the shaded areas alone then mix ork hide and any lighter green 75/25 for highlights then if your like me and fussy lol tie it all together with a watered down green wash I use thrakka green it's quicker then it sounds lol

Foundry French Dragoon Green seems very appropriate with his 3 shades.

Foundry French Dragoon Green seems very appropriate with his 3 shades. I had found those whilst looking for Greens, but as I have no knowledge of Foundry paints, what are they like to use?

They aren't so thin as Vallejo and cover very well. I myself use only Foundry. Some says, that Foundry are similar to Coat d'arms paints. Dragoon Green are best for 6mm, but for bigger figs Chevauleggers Green are better.

Sho Thanks, I use Coat d'arms a fair bit, so that is a useful comparison.

That's the good thing about 6mm as long as its in the ball park its all good but I would tend to go lighter with 6mm.

Thank you all for your recommendations, from them and my Google Fu, I have hedged my bets and ordered Vallejo Deep Green and Flat Green, as they appear to be the two greens most commonly used. I will try them both out and then choose the one I like best.

It was the same colour as Russian coats, which is very dark. Bu, reluctantly, I am a convert to the go a couple of shades lighter and heavy on the colour saturation school otherwise all your troops look like brunswickers. I use a sort of Leprachaun Green which would look awful on a 54mm figure.
