Really well done Colin! I like the nice thin bases as well (I don't like thick bases on 6mm figs, just a personal phobia).

Thanks Tim. The bases need some work as you can see. I generally use the cardboard rear panel of a writing pad. The terrain is a warhammer table my son did ten years ago. Pretty hard to keep these small bases standing on terrain grass on a slope.

Love how well those heroics and ros have painted up. im looking at using plastic pallet banding for my bases they are thin and don't flex when cut to 40 mm strips or under also pva glue takes really well , what rules are theses based for ?

Based for good old Newbury. I like to be able to deploy skirmishers, and have proper company bases for various formations. I'm a bit tedious :-) but that is fine when you are gaming solitaire.

By far the best looking H&R figures I have ever seen. Wonderful looking units.

I agree Rct Colin have you tried adler figures I think you could do a stunning job on them as the detail is there to paint ,

Thanks gents. I have a lot of unpainted H&R figs from 20 years ago so I will stay with them. I am not a great fan of the dwarfish proportions of the higher detailed figs of newer makers....but they do look great painted! My style is to paint in certain details in high contrast (e.g. Musket barrel bands, harness buckles, shako and cartridge box plates) to give the eye the illusion that detail is there.
I find that its easy to paint in detail even when its not included in the sculpt. The key is a good brush. A lot of these were done in oils. I am now using Windsor Newton professional soft body acrylics (botled). Durable and bright and if one applies the paint undiluted you get a slight impasto effect just like oils. Works for me.

Just got through posting a compliment on your Austrians and now I see these beauties! Again, echoing the others, great work, I rarely approach this level of detail on my H & Rs also bought years ago but I still get them from The Last Square here in the states. This is just lovely work.
I base almost the same way, but I use a thin felt coated card that is sticky on one side after you peel off the cover. Cut to size. Figures stick and the bases flock/paint nicely, the felt side is the bottom. I get them at a craft store, same color as the marine vinyl I use to cover my table. The vinyl is not shiny, has a bit of a random terrain like surface, and the felt based units slide and move easily around on their own or grouped in movement trays I make out of foam. The fabric store cuts it to size for me, I keep 4x12 roles in green, brown, white etc. depending on the game. Foam blocks slide nicely underneath to create hills and slopes. Not nearly as nice as a flocked surface like yours, but movement is easy and I handle my figures less. This system also works well with Chessex grid battle mats. Thank you for posting these, glad to find others still use H & R. Bruce
