Hi, A few months ago I decided that I will need a suitable battlefield for the little chaps to fight over. Im really restricted for space so an elaborate gaming table is not an option at the moment. I have got 4 TSS modular game boards but they are desert ones. After a bit of thought I ended up making some temperate (european) boards on the other side. Here are the boards getting painted up in the garden. I used moss green emulsion, and while still wet I added different amounts of tester pots to create the fields. Here are all 4 boards, now with some roads painted on using cheap craft acrylic. I have tried to hide the modular look of the boards by painting on the irregular fields. Here they are with some home made trees and hedges. A slightly closer look, with more natural light. A closer look at the trees, The taller ones are home made with wire and clump foliage, and the small one is one of many cheap trees I got from China dirt cheap! The hedges are green pan scourers, cut to shape then dipped in watered down PVA then flock. I have since reinforced the edges of the boards with green tape. I have also made a few small hills and made some templates for the wooded areas. Whats next? I have a few bases of the excellent TBM buildings to get done then im pretty much set I think! (for now anyway). Cheers for looking, Steve

This looks really nice Steve. Do you plan on flocking the boards ? I have been thinking about how I'm going to approach a gaming table / boards I'm not keen on the look of hex based system but this board system works pretty well. Thanks for posting

Im not going to flock the boards, because I move about alot they will just get ruined anyway. They are pretty durable the way they are. Once ive settled down im going to make some new ones. or ill tart these ones up a bit.

These look really impressive. If you still wanted to give consideration to flocking I would mix 50 50 water PVA, paint it on the sections and flock as normal, when that is dry shake off the excess flock and put the PVA/Water mix in a spray bottle and spray a generous amount to cover the surface of the flock again. This will leave your boards able to take a bit more ware.
They look great the way they are. Its like anything built to perfection its the last 20% that takes 80% of the time. Sometimes you just need to say enough, Next project!!!

Yorkie
Like the boards. I've tried painting boards myself, but to no avail always looks like kids art work. Are the boards 2x2's?

Yes they are 2x2 desert terrain boards from TSS. I have just painted the reverse side of them as a quick fix for a European battlefield.

Hey Mike, i find the airbrush is my best friend when it comes to painting terrain. Best to stick to neutral colours also. Want to paint a wheat field, use a yellow orche not a mustered or yellow. That kind of thing. Airbrush applies the paint in an u predictable way so it has less of a crafted look. Yes they are 2x2 desert terrain boards from TSS.
