When late last year Mick of Leven Miniatures asked me to paint a pre=production model of his forthcoming 6mm Plancenoit church – St Catherine’s - I asked him to provide me with an additional model, which I have now painted and based.
The link to some pictures – some taken last night under artificial light and some this morning – is below:

After some research into the likely appearance of the church in 1815 I undercoated the model black then painted windows Citadel Dark Reaper, dry brushed the body of the church Coat d’arms Brick red, the tower Citadel Administration Grey and roofs Citadel Dawnstone. Roofs were then given a wash of Citadel Nuln Oil and a final dry brush of Administration Grey. Doors were painted Vallejo Mahogany Red, dry brushed Dawnstone.
The 120mm square base was supplied by Simon of S&A Scenic and is covered in Metcalfe OO/HO Cobblestones builder sheet M0051 (though not in scale this seems to work well with 6mm models). The path round the church was drawn out and the remainder of the base was painted over with Coat d’arms Sandy Brown Brushscape dry brushed white and then painted over with Citadel Seraphim Sepia wash. Graves and headstones are card and tombs are wood and card. The open grave was “dug out” of the base and the pile of earth was Citadel Stirland Mud. The cross was scatchbuilt from matchsticks and the flowers at its base are N gauge ready-made. Placing a nail just beyond the cross and four at each corner I used these to position the Javis flexible N gauge wall to make the characteristic curved corners, stuck this down and dry brushed the top Administration Grey. The gate and posts are scatchbuilt from plastic card and match sticks. All was now given a couple of coats of Matt varnish before finally, using I my latest toy – an electronic device that charges static grass that is added to something resembling a tea strainer – I added 1mm Summer Meadow static grass.
Anyway, I’m happy with this first attempt on my part and hope it proves useful.
