Well I'm brand new to Napoleonic's and I've been trying to gather together as much info before I start spending serious cash and then to my horror realize I've got it all wrong
I'm hoping to play (at least to begin with) at corps level. I already purchased "Napoleon's Battles" a few days ago (I'm a bit of a rules junky...just love reading them) and I'm enjoying the read.
I've decided to go Alder (for better or for worse; after checking out the competition I feel they may have a little more presence! Baccus look excellent too)
To get started I've decided on Old Guard to commission paint my first Divisions. I intend to paint my own from then on. I enjoy the painting aspect of the hobby (within reason) but I feel I need to get a start or I'll feel overwhelmed.
I'm undecided what armies to start with. I'll be purchasing French for sure. My favourite opponent would be British (well late war so Waterloo) but I thought the Austrians might be more versatile?
I'm a bit confused at how to start an army. Get an order of battle of a favourite battle. Decide on a scale 1:whatever. Then decide on which Divisions to buy???
When I go on Alders I see there's Divisions to purchase but would I need to get extras to that? Artillery? Leaders? Elite troops?
For example I love the French Old Guard and Polish Lancers...British Scots Greys etc... okay you get the picture I'm sure Is it just ridiculous to purchase these kind of troops when I don't have the basics...Should I buy lots and lots of line infantry or???
Can anyone recommend a site that might give suggestions maybe?
I'm sorry if I'm being a bit of a pain but I'm very new to this and I want to make this work and not destroy my changes of a decent start to the genre
Signed
a bit confused
