When I posted my basing tutorial and put a link on TMP someone suggested using white glue and then a spot of super glue on top to stick figures on without bothering with evening up the bases. Some sort of reaction with the glues. I know Richard has used green stuff but too fiddly with my small bases and mostly sticking down individual figures. I tried it and it works - but actually you may as well use green stuff for infantry as it does not set that quickly and you need to adjust the figures occasionally as it sets. So I have just stayed with evening the bases of infantry and just using white glue. But for cavalry it is really worth doing particularly as there are few on a base and the Adler cavalry bases are often very narrow which makes getting them level quite hard (but too long for me to just put on a board and slice with a knife that speeds it up for infantry). You still need to keep an eye on them as it dries and a few need straightening up but overall much quicker. I also used this to stick some side plates on a plastic jagd panzer IV which would have not worked well at all with just one of the glue types, so seems good for getting small or fiddly bits stuck on models too

Handy to know Steve. I use superglue gel which gives you a bit more time to move things about.

Steve
Years ago I found that using white glue on the cardboard base and superglue on the base of the miniature was the way to go. I found the two bonded well and the mini wouldn't drop off the base at all. Though you have to make sure first time the mini's are all positioned on the base correctly, as when bonded there's no going back. I was always conscious of the fumes over the painted mini, leaving a white film, but it's never happened, touch wood.

Great tip will have to give it a go, at the moment I use green stuff as mentioned by Steve as I find it gives a nice even surface and levels the figures nicely. But am open to change, I think!!

superglue and baking soda /powder is magic . pour the soda over the glue and it sets superfast and is a good filler too
Ive even used it to repair broken fiberglass pieces for my pontiac

Ever since I have been wargaming I have always used a contact adhesive for sticking figures down. They can be move around or, if they have very narrow bases, unfortunately sometimes they tend to lean and need help staying upright. White glue spread over the base followed by a dip into various grades of sand depending on the scale. For 6mm I have a container of sand that I collected from the Sahara -holiday in Tunisia- that is just the right scale to allow a certain amount of drybrushing and/or washing. Further dabs of white glue then a dip into static grass and that's it. Sight less expensive than Green Stuff.
#tac If ever I run out of sand I may try that idea of yours.
