Log is completely natural, all it did was glue it down. It's from one of my bonsai trees, a Trident maple (Acer buergerianum), some bits were on the top of the pot from last years pruning.

The end of a fine needle filed off flat with about 5 molecules of paint on the end Luckily the vellejo metalics are quite thick consistancy so not too bad, just lay off the booze the night before

Ok Tim, what arcane witchery did you use to paint the eyes !!!! I have tried and tried and can't get it . There are just holes where eyes should be the only way I can do it is to sculpt in the eyes with green stuff but that's a major chore, I won't be defeated by a man who doesant paint four white socks on horses lol, what's the secret?

I use th W&N nut bown ink as a wash, that drops into the hole and creates the pupil and the eybrows. A blob of white each side of the eye with Insane Detail brush. Even then the blob will be too big so work the flesh colour back in towards the eye until the white just a speck in each corner. Also the gloss varnish helps bring it out if you get the light angle right when photographing. BTW get the lighting wrong and they look like goggle eyed monsters. Oh and I use a bloody great illuminated magnifying glass and my reading glasses as well

Thanks Tim will try it , I've never used a magnifier of any type before, army painter insane detail brushes are my main brush get through 2 a month at the moment, have you tried there phyco brush it's a lot finer I use it for fine lines. My hat is off to you by the way you are a great painter. You should try taking a photo of your figs before gloss varnish as the detail will show up a lot more the gloss hides the detail from the camera I found, when I get asked to gloss varnish I always photo before so they can see the what they are getting .

Actually I think it was the Psyco brush (the finest one whatever) hard to tell 'cos I have had to cut most of the handle off all my brushes to get them under the magnifying glass so can't read what size they are! hehe. I have just bought some Testors Dullcote to put on top of the gloss varnish. I like gloss under normal light but when under photographic lights it brings out the reflections and highlights too much which require some post operative correction in Lightroom to fix. I will be trying this on the next unit ( French line horse battery).
