While looking at an old thread related to this topic, I noted that Richard, our Forum founder and maker of great scenic stuff at Perfect Six, wondered whether there were any ideas on things he might actually cast in metal for markers to indicate unit status. Things that would blend into the table more readily than beads, dice, etc. from a scenic point of view.
There were no replies, but this topic has always interested me. As always it's down to a matter of personal preference. Many people don't want a lot of game related clutter on the table. Others do not mind - even though their figures may be meticulously painted, the table appearance is less of a priority.
I have always ways wondered why no one makes casts of figures running away or looking disordered, since this happened so often in every battle, and is a part of most rules. A small group of these, nicely based, would make a greAt looking marker attached to a unit. Irregular makes some casualty bases, which I have used to add the feeling of mayhem sometimes. But they don't really make sense for a disordered unit withdrawn from the line.
In in any case, does anyone have any ideas? What kind of cast figure or symbols might look good attached to a unit to indicate status? Bruce

I taked the cource to play my wargames in 6mm only. So I need many markers, because my Units may use up to 9 markers. These markers also will add depth and beauty to thin battlelines. Markers will be Flagpoint stand, Officer as high control, Drummer as low control, NCOs as available ammo, Skirmishers as skirmisher shots, Small gun as regimental artillery. Also optional casualty markers, for pure beauty.

Sounds excellent Sho! How about a wrecked canon? Also some figures for disordered: perhaps some with no muskets, no hats, or wounded? Has any one ever seen any 6mm wounded figs anywhere? Bruce

I don’t need wrecked cannons actually. These are casualty markers for beauty and may be simply maked by cutting off one wheel. About disordered figures I thinked, but also abandoned these. As much as needed and as less as possible. Officer and Drummer markers do the work. But I forgot Ardor marker before. Especcially needed for untrained revolutionary troops. Wounded and dead are the same by meaning in game, to mark areas, where troops clashes.
I will offer my 6mm sets as battle ready complete units, with all markers needed.

I know you have your own rules Sho and you are offering the markers with the troops. I am sure they will look great!
I would hate using up any of my guns to make the wrecked artillery markers for Age of Eagles rules. And I think that walking wounded were common, as were units falling back or in retreat in various states of disorder. If there were a couple of appropriate figures such as walking wounded or men who have lost parts of their kit, they could be based to indicate the disordered state common to so many rules in a way they added to the battlefield appearance. This is really what I meant. I have quite a few Irregular casualty bases for infantry and cavalry and they do add color, and perhaps the smaller ones can serve as markers for units that have taken hits for some games. But the walking figs I have described are what I am looking for.
Not an interest for some, I know. I am thinking that I may have to create my own figs for this via some conversions. I certainly have enough unpainted lead around to chose from. As for the guns, this may require some creative thinking as I need all my wheels!
After my Age of Eagles trial run, which I have postponed to August when I return from holiday, I am playing Volley & Bayonet, which arrived today. V&B appears to be more of a roster game - adding to the fog of war - but I still will likely start on my own converted figs for markers.
At least one group I have read about uses farm animals as status markers for their units! Richard has plenty of these... Bruce

Adler do some packs of wounded Bruce but they would look a bit big against you H&R stuff.

Aha! Much thanks Tim, these are exactly what I mean! I have looked at Adler before just for fun in general, but did not notice the casualty packs. Yes they are much bigger than H&R, but maybe as markers in small numbers they will give the right look - perhaps I can bend them over a bit. They apparently even come with a sprue of shakos to scatter about! Brilliant! I finally found a photo of them on Dartfrog's blog. I wish Adler had photos on their website. Bruce
