Hi all,
I received my model of the Leven Hougoumont set last December. Having decided to create and add the formal garden, orchards and wood it has taken me till now to finish the project. As the chateau complex fits nicely onto an A4 Birch plywood sheet, this decided the total size of the model. I decided to use 4 A4 sheets 2mm thick sheets. As stated, the chateau (and part of the small orchard) occupied one sheet. The formal garden and the large orchard occupied another sheet. To keep the size manageable the formal garden was deliberately foreshortened. The wood and fields occupied the remaining two sheets.
A link to some captioned photos of the painted model is below:

Trees were architectural model trees supplied by Model Trees & Palms, Model Tree Shop and 4D Model Making. Whilst they are expensive, they do look good and in my opinion are worth the extra cost. Hedges by Kallistra. Haystacks by Irregular Miniatures. Plinths (in the formal garden) are Leven pre-release model. Total size is 60 x 40cm and works out at approx. scale of 1mm = 1 1/2 meters.
Whilst current view is that buildings were limewashed white and outbuildings were thatched, my model does I think give an impression of what it would have looked like it 1815 and what a formidable obstacle it was for the French.
Anyway, interested to hear forum comments.
Would have been nice to have been able to add a couple of barrels........
