Boki 6mm figure review part 1

Hi all

Sho has been kind enough to send me some of his new 6mm figure range to review for our members, wich I recieved today,thank you .
I will go through and review each figure , so this will be a long thread and will take a few weeks to compile but first things first , size!

Boki 6mm infantry measure around 6.22mm from base of foot to eye roughly the same size as baccus and very close to adler, wich I feel is a great bonus as you could easily mix with both ranges.see pic below.

The adler and boki figures are both grenadier/voltigeur , had to use a brittish infantry man for baccus as I had no young guard. (sorry peter) . As you can these figures are fully compatible.

I will start by painting this voltigeur figure as I'm very familiar with the subject, im also waiting for Tim who has kindly offered to send me some baccus russian generals so I can fully compare all three manufacturers mounted officers, I know sho is desperate to see his horses in comparision to other figures so I have posted a couple of pics bellow for starters.

I will add more pictures when I have some matching baccus figures. Sho horse is of good proportions with some nicely defined tack wich will be helpful in the painting process, I would like to see a few more horse poses in the future, but for a first attemp I like them.

Now the real test how do they paint!!! Anyone seen my

Ok so my thoughts, first things first WELL done sho, this is a lovely sculpt with lots of detail and character, the figures proportions are great, with more then enough detail for us crazy guys who have to paint it, also the figure looked good with a basic paint job and wash, I found myself wanting to add more paint. The only downside was there wasant a coller and no matter how much I tried I couldant paint one in, something to think about in the future ! All in all I'm very impressed and would love to paint and base a full battalion of these.

I will try a mounted figure next within the next day or two.

It is clear now, that my horses are at least ~1mm too high.
But I may keep them for heavy cavalry.

One thing I must clear.
Painted foot figure are sculpted as grenadieur/voltigeur for line infantry. Pompon under plume.
I will convert it to middle and young guard by removing the pompon and to legere by moving plume to side of shako.
And with changing the shako to bearskin hat it will serve as old guard.

Missing collar is a minor problem, yes. I myself paint collar only under the chin, because in tight formations it will be seen only in front anyway.

Had a bit of time this evening, so painted a Russian hussar , see pics below, again a nice figure, I will review mounted figs in more depth once a few more have been painted.

I have hussars and cuirassieurs on my painting table too, but unfortunately can't find free time for them..

No not yet Tim, post office is awful lately hopefully will get them soon

Bloody hell! they were sent first class over a week ago. They have been a waste of space since they were privatised. Grrrrrrrrrrr

Just shows you need to see figures painted for a decent review. I thought the castings were OK but so much better painted, great first effort Sho

I will start on the russian command soon, Tim has kindly accepted my offer to him to paint up the cannon and crew wich I will post to him Monday, as in a little snowed under at the moment .

Got them finished this morning.
Tricky little swines to paint if you are used to nice bulky Adler figures but not bad overall.
Difficult to photograph too, I will try and get some better shots next week.

Amazing paintwork!
It's so hard to paint in 6mm.
I painted these by myself too and with naked eye looks good.. but on photo looks like disaster.

Richard.. it became clear why was so difficult to paint collar for voltigeur.
With magnifier I see couple of micro tin bubbles under the neck of these figures, instead of collar.

Tim.. no better shots? ;-)
btw.. 3 of your 4 crew members are misplaced. There are positions, fixed by regulations, for all of them.
I don't sculpt yet 2 more crew members, who carried and loaded ammunition.
