They look good to me, with my method this would be the first coat then I would wash with dark tone black ink, then re apply the base colours. it will give A lot if depth I actually think they look very effective as they are, so well done

Like Richard I would give a light ink wash (DO NOT USE INDIAN INK!!!!!) I use Nut Brown where Richard uses black
Even without they look good

I use GW washes for most things, some neat Agrax Earthshade on the faces brings them out a treat. Nut Oil on the white for the French but perhaps watered down a bit - I bought some Austrians on ebay to bulk out my army and intend to do as I just suggested to bring out the detail and make them more like my existing stuff. You use a similar base size to mine - I have a basing tutorial over on the Tutorials part of the forum

Very nice, love that bright yellow! Like the others would reccomend a wash to bring the detail out. I use Winsor&Newton nut brown on everthing (apart from white horses) and then just bring the highlights up on the white afterwards. Try it on a white undercoated figure first to get the look you want as regards dilution of the wash if you want to try it out.

Gentlemen, thank you very much for the kind and encouraging words, as you can see these were photographed under a strong light with a decent macro lens, so they have stood up well under scrutiny.
I can see other areas that would look good tidied too so I will take the advice and pop the one rank off and get to work with washes etc
How do you think the differing colour trousers works? ok or too much?

I like the different colours, it gives a good campaign look. I'm the worlds worst for presenting my troops in full dress uniform all nice and clean with white trousers, plumes etc., but then my excuse is that most of the troops of the time carried them in their packs either to die looking good on the field or for the victory parade after the battle when in reality they would be wearing whatever they could get their hands on locally, especially in Spain.

I would tone done the different trousers just a bit. Looks good but a little less would look better I think Ian

Thanks for the feedback chaps, when I compare my figures to the many other delights here , I start to become a little paranoid that mine are ok!
